Magnolia Sound is a Portland, Maine audio company, offering live sound and location recording services, specializing in live recording of small to medium string ensembles.
We offer live sound reinforcement for classical ensembles; jazz, folk, rock and pop bands; lecturers, authors, poets; dance and multimedia productions; wedding ceremonies.
Owned and operated by Roland Robitaille, Magnolia Sound began in 2018 with a pair of condenser microphones and a Zoom recorder, no name, and just recordings for friends. Over several years, the concept and equipment list has grown, and Magnolia Sound officially came into being in 2026.
A mid-coast Maine native, Roland has lived in Portland for 7 years, during which time he has slowly built the company that would become Magnolia Sound. As an aspiring musician, Roland attended the jazz program at University Of Maine at Augusta, initially focusing on a degree in Audio Recording, before ultimately graduating with a Bachelors in Business Management. After several years of working in different industries, Roland became the operations director and Performance Manager for Palaver Strings, a classical string orchestra, first based in Boston, and now Portland. While working with Palaver Strings, Roland began recording concerts, and handling live sound engineering. Over time, he began to add other clients - including Bay Chamber Concerts in mid-coast Maine, and Mechanics Hall, Mayo St Arts, and Meetinghouse Arts in southern Maine.
